The world of sport: Rafael Nadal beats Roger Federer in straight sets while England finally win in Australia This is Surrey -- IT HAS been another dramatic day already in the world of sport, with Rafael Nadal defeating Roger Federer in straight sets in the Australian Open semi-final and England's cricketers finally winning a match on their dismal tour of Australia. RAFAEL NADAL was in imperious form as he defeated familiar rival Roger Federer in straight sets at the Australian Open today (Friday). The world number one battled through the pain of a blister on his hand to see off his Swiss opponent in convincing fashion, winning 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 to set up a final against Stanislas Wawrinka on Sunday. Federer, who knocked out Great Britain's Andy Murray in four sets in the quarter-final, was not able to replicate his impressive performance in the match, with Nadal outclassing him with some brilliant passing shots. And Nadal will now bid to win a 14th Grand Slam title when he takes on Wawrinka, who will be playing in his debut Grand Slam final, on Sunday. Meanwhile, England's cricketers have finally won a match on their tour of Australia. Having lost the Ashes Test series 5-0 and the first three One Day Internationals, England finally tasted victory today with a 57-run triumph in Perth, ending a nine-game losing streak against the Aussies. Elsewhere, England's Lizzy Yarnold has been crowned skeleton World Cup champion ahead of the Winter Olympics. Yarnold, who finished ninth in the last race in Konigsee, Germany, will now go into the Games in Sochi next month on a high, after winning the title by 152 points. Reported by This is 4 days ago.
