South Africa have displaced Australia from the top of the world Test rankings, again succeeding where England failed recently by batting throughout the last day against Sri Lanka to secure a 1-0 series victory.
The Proteas have shrugged off the recent retirements of Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis to resume the position they held from August 2012, when they won in England to knock Andy Flowers team off the top of the rankings, until May this year when their home defeat by Australia effectively cost them top spot.
